I have wondered about all these things (and also the increased prevalence of food allergies). But I also have to notice that your list sounded very…normal to me. Yes, I do things right away to avoid forgetting them. Yes, I write myself reminder notes. Yes, it can be hard to focus and I have to take breaks or switch to another task or just power through and keep redirecting myself back to the task at hand and it takes three times as long as it should have. Yes I notice something else that needs doing in the middle of a task and wander off and do it (sometimes forgetting the critical step of figuring out which task is the higher priority). I make lists and set reminders. My brain also feels like spaghetti. But…do you know anyone who isn’t like this? I’m not sure I do. Is this actually a disorder? Or is this how human brains behave in the face of having one hundred million responsibilities and tasks and choices and things to think about? And there are people who struggle more with this, and some who struggle less, and everyone develops strategies for helping them navigate a complicated life. But it seems like people have always been this way. If you read old books people tied strings around their wrists to remind themselves to do something (and they probably also had far fewer things to remember and distract!)
I’m not saying that people shouldn’t take meds if they find them helpful. But I am worried that we’re pathologizing perfectly normal brains by having unrealistic expectations of ourselves, or expecting everyone’s brain to be exactly the same with the same set of strengths and weaknesses. My daughter takes meds and to be honest, I think for her they are a bit of a way for her to feel like she’s not to blame for any weaknesses or mistakes. Rather than working on those things, or even accepting herself, she wants to slap a label and a medication on them. But we are allowed to be imperfect. All humans are.
I have the same problem with moving from one thing to another and unfinished writing. It also came home to me this morning about how important RFK Jr. is to the administration, and that in several ways. One, he is very familiar with how corrupt the system is. The political machine has lied about him consistently. Two, he is on to the food and drug dynasty and what may be called the "worship of mammon."
Just this morning, I watched a lengthy discussion with Tucker Carlson. It is a YouTube at: "Calley & Casey Means: How Big Pharma Keeps You Sick, and the Dark Truth About Ozempic and the Pill."
I have been very cynical about the future of America, but with Trump, RFK Jr. and Elon Musk involved, combined with the Grace and Mercy of God through our Lord Jesus Christ, we may be able to pull thorough this!
Excellent choice to go off the pharma. All meds have side effects, and one must make a choice between whatever benefit (if any) one gets is worth the negatives. I believe pharma is pushing the idea that any variation from "normal" needs to be medicated, rather than accept our differences. I found it interesting you stated "The upside...is that hyperactivity allows me to do twice the amount of physical work as a normal person...which definitely has been helping me get the family homestead off the ground. I have energy to play with my child for hours at the playground." I'm also excited about the possibility of RFK Jr. investigating the side effects of vaccines, or in any other role he might fill.
Believe it or not there are several studies that found that adhd has benefits. One of them is our responsiveness in an emergency, supposedly we panic less and are able to respond than the average person. There’s the energy levels. People with ADHD are known to be more creative. There’s a lot of different interesting ways ADHD expresses itself.
But yeah I didn’t like the way the meds affected me so I left it alone.
Another way of saying we're all different, with varying strengths and weaknesses. You use the phrase "average/normal person" quite a bit, and then compare yourself with that average. Throughout K-12, I was below the "average" when it came to athletics in traditional sports, always last to be picked for a team. I thank God I wasn't given steroids to bring me up to average. I also don't have a great memory and I'm sure there's a pill (with consequences) for that. I chose to work to my strengths as a good troubleshooter with a matching drive to improve processes, and an ability to see connections. I do try and work on my memory weakness by writing notes and doing memory exercises, and I have zero creative ability and leave that to others. It has worked for me.
As you have experienced, much of medicine treats the symptoms, not the cause. And many times, the treatment is worse than whatever it is intended to "cure". I encourage you to do a search for Gary Brecka, who has done extensive research into gene mutations and their consequences. As an example, almost 50% of the people in this country have a gene mutation that prevents them from converting food into the form that can be used by the body. As an example, there's a gene mutation that prevents the conversion of raw materials (food) into Vitamin B12. I mentioned that to a friend who replied she had that gene mutation (she was tested years ago in relation to a different issue) and subsequent testing showed she was B12 deficient and needed to take supplements. Brecka has also stated that ADD/ADHD is not an attention deficit, it's attention overload (that is, you don't have an attention deficiency, mind is continuously moving from one topic to another.) When I was a child, ADD was unrecognized and I was labeled a "problem child". Over the years, I became better at focusing on a single topic, but I still often go from A to C to D to get to B. It just might be that the right supplements might be the most effective means of calming your ADHD- and without any side effects. Following is a link to a video dealing with ADHD (skip past the commercial at the beginning) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nM53O-DYSS4
Meds have their place. So do alternatives. Changing diet helped me much more than meds, but I won’t denigrate them unnecessarily. There is, however, a tendency to overprescribe meds for everything and even those helped by various meds should consider behaviour and environmental modifications to lessen said reliance.
They have Cease Therapist in many countries. Healing Children with Autism : CEASE THERAPY
¨Dr. Smits discovered in his practice with over 300 cases the foundation of CEASE therapy and came to his hypothisis of what causes autism. In his experience autism is an accumulation of different causes and about 70% is due to vaccines, 25% to toxic medication and other toxic substances, 5% to some diseases. With isotherapy (see below), a form of homeopathy using the causative substances themselves in homeopathic preparation, the toxic imprints can be erased. CEASE Therapy - The treatment of autistic children and even adults has matured through 300 cases taken by Dr. Tinus Smits and is called CEASE Therapy. Step by step all asumed causative factors (vaccines, regular medication, environmental toxic exposures, effects of illness, etc.) are cleared with the homeopathically prepared, that is diluted and potentized substances that were administered prior to the onset of autism. Currently we use the 30C, 200C, 1M and 10M potencies to clear out the energetic field of the patient from the imprint of toxic substances or diseases... CEASE practitioners We currently have over 500 CEASE practitioners around the world. They have all been certified after taking our extensive CEASE training course to assure correct administration of CEASE Therapy. Nobody judged anyone in this article. Talking about my personal experiences with ADHD, medication, and how I’m excited to hopefully get some answers to better protect my children is not judgment.

All that stuff is normal to some degree. Not being able to focus longer than 15-30 minutes or sit still, I don’t think is normal.
It’s the severity of the symptoms that makes the difference
