Thoughtful professional post. Social work used to be a heroic endeavor done by selfless people. Those days are long gone. A great deal of money is plowed into social work schools and we see the resulting rise in power and damage done. I now cringe when I hear a young person studying social work or social justice. In CA, courts have denied shared custody to the parent who doesn't want their child vaccinated. They want to extend this to parents who don't want their minor child medically transitioned. The state's power has grown like a giant octopus with its tentacle. We are the product to be shuffled about. Neo-Marxists predicted this; unfortunately, their belief system helped usher it in.
I’m not from or in the US, and I happened to subscribe to this publication and saw your very thorough piece. It is quite shocking for an outsider to learn of such things happening in your country. I know there are many many great things about the US, but it just seems there are now a growing number of aspects - such as what you’ve described - that make it seem more like what would happen in a third-world country. On visits to the US, I often meet Americans who tell me that the US is the greatest country in the world. Good for you for calling out the parts that aren’t great, and hopefully there will be accountability and retribution.
For those in the what is dubbed anti vax community, which is actually the bodily autonomy community there is a term for it and support groups for parents. The term is "medical kidnapping" and it is rampant. We need to end qualified immunity for state and federal employees they can not be beyond reproach or this is what we will continue to get. The question must be asked, why? It has to be about $$$. Is that always the case, probably not, however, the medical kidnapping community continues to grow.
