Essentially you are simply saying it is a way to dumb down the population. Independent thinkers become rogue and an enemy of the state. Let’s not let this happen.

This explains California perfectly. And of course California would be the greatest example since it was the entertainment capital of the world. Celebrities confuse the heroic characters they play with their own lives. Government officials no longer hide their disdain for those in the middle. As you so eloquently write, the narrative of a pretty story has been shed and all that remains is the power. The entertainment industry is notorious for overworking people and treating them unfairly. I have often wondered if the sunny image it portrays creates the ugliness behind the curtain. Or perhaps it is the inverse.

The entertainment industry in general, and Hollywood specifically, have been in the child exploitation business forever, one of the reasons why "Sound of Freedom" was so reviled among the glitterati.

I love the Wizard of Oz and know Judy Garland was essentially tortured to perform. It leaves me with very mixed feelings.
