Some serious food for thought here. Thanks Jeff!

This is the problem with postmodern deconstruction: it teaches the individual to define himself by what he is not, rather than by what he is. The result is a (vicious) tearing down of just about everything rather than a building up of anything. Lack of identity among children (and many adults) these days appears to be the sole root of mental illness. Without an anchoring sense of self, one has little or not resilience when life doesn't go one's way.

Thank you, Jake. I agree with everything, but would add that the process of decay begins with a spiritual disassociation, a paucity of spiritual meaning in our lives. When we are spiritually disconnected we become socially disconnected. When we become socially disconnected we become emotionally disconnected. Eventually, our emotional disconnection manifests as physical disease. What begins with the spiritual will always manifest socially, emotionally, and physically -- in that order. See my essay, The Quality of Life Essentials: a revised hierarchy of needs, here: https://open.substack.com/pub/qolrm/p/the-quality-of-life-essentials?r=7hc45&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web.

Thanks again, Jake. Much appreciate your contribution.

Absolutely. When I speak of anchoring, it is most certainly a spiritual one; something bigger than oneself. We are rapidly losing that as progressivism (or whatever other man-made faith) becomes people's religion...

I'll check out that post, thanks!
