You have written another good post that only 10 people might care about. This is not a criticism mind you. As a former lawyer who wrote about mundane subjects like the Americans with Disabilities Act (riveting material) your efforts are not lost on me. But I’ve read the comments and well…. I will leave it right there. Most people don’t know what they don’t know. The idea that our system would be “better off” with a third party takes us down a road that is a dead end (democracy is bad enough without having to compromise with another corrupt party).
You already know where I’m coming from politically. I may not be alive when the next revolution comes, but hopefully my children will be.
My thoughts on all things have been recorded and shared with the next generation. I have also shared your good work with the future leaders of our next American Revolution.
As always I applaud your fine writing and sound reasoning. I look forward with great anticipation to your next post.
I live in CA. The Dems have made sure they have a super majority at every turn. We are living off the fumes of things built when it was balanced. LA is imploding - or should I say burning.
The real problem is the two political parties. They are the ones causing these problems, and they have NO authority to run governments. The parties aren't branches of government. They aren't recognized in the constitution. They are just special interest groups that have managed to take complete control of out governments.
Gerrymandering is a symptom, not the disease. Get RID of the two parties.
As for states that don't Gerrymander, they may feel good about themselves, but they are also marginalizing themselves. Such a state has less clout in congress. Still, the solution is to do away with the two parties.
We forget that we do have the power. Third parties can do a lot to shape issues, even when their candidates don't win. The more votes they get, the more the two parties have to alter their platforms to stay ahead of them. No one should think that voting third party is throwing away a vote. Generally, it's a much more effective vote than voting for the D and R parties, even when their candidate doesn't get elected.
And in the age of the internet a groundswell independent campaign can theoretically win just about anything. The two parties have very little support among the general population. They're sitting ducks, if people just decide to stop putting up with them.

I generally agree with the exception of "The two parties have little support among the general population."
I think there is discontent which third parties have yet to take advantage of but I still think the two main parties have a lot of support.
That support is disintegrating.
There are multiple surveys, each of which varies, but none shows widespread support for the two partiers.
