To write about any aspect of our culture that has caused yet another internet uproar feels like feeding the fire. These events are certainly not anything that any “writer” would need to cover, but many are events much too juicy for the “blogger” to ignore.
Some may start out as artists, but the business of success and its replication takes over. Hence the rock album that makes the rock band famous and is never again matched. The rock band, the singer, the actor, the painter, becomes a stultified parody of itself. The immersion in vapid celebrity culture kills the artistry, and quite often, also the artist.
Reminds me of some passages in Keith Richard´s biography, Life, where he speaks in a similar tone of his band´s lead singer. Its interesting because it not only happens to individuals but can also happen to entire mediums- the way rock n roll became a parody of itself in the 80´s and also the way abstract painting has become rather bastardized and often cruddy nowadays.

Anyways, I agree!
Thanks for reading, Clare.
I would argue that there are plenty of incredible artists out there, just maybe not the incredibly “mainstream” ones.
No doubt.
