I know plenty of people who were shocked by the mass shooting committed by Audrey Hale. I for one was not. For a while now, trans rights activists, along with their allies in the ACLU, the mainstream media, as well as politicians have been pushing hyperbolic rhetoric for quite some time.
How exactly? Well, they call bans on gender-affirming care for minors “hate-filled” bills. Yet they never explain why safeguarding children from making permanent life decisions as prepubescents is “hateful.”
They also lie directly to the public about what these treatments entail, to minimize their impact. They lie stating that these drugs aren’t handed out “lightly” Yet, according to trans activist Erin Reed, requiring so much as a therapy letter is “gatekeeping” and there are plenty of HRT clinics that don’t require a single therapy appointment.
This makes it clear that any reasonable safeguards to transition genders will be viewed as “hateful”.
Meanwhile, another prominent trans rights activist Katy Montgomerie claims that advocating for parents to be informed that their child is gender dysphoric (which, according to the Trevor Project carry’s risks of suicide) is the equivalent of wanting children to be beaten.
And finally, there are those that, despite the violence that occurred in Nashville, appear to call for even more violence, as apparently anything other than complete acquiescence to their demands is debating “their right to exist.”
A trans rights activist group “our rights DC” planned a “Trans day of “Vengeance” to “Stop Trans Genocide” that was later canceled.
This isn’t just isolated to Social Media. They use inflammatory language such as “trans-Americans are under siege” on the mainstream media’s own MSNBC. So is it any wonder that trans people are scared? The media, activists, and political organizations who claim to care about them are constantly feeding them lies, and radicalizing them.
But the reality is the more these special interest groups use irresponsible, dishonest, hyperbolic language, the worse things are going to become, as the elephant in the room-mental health becomes impossible to ignore.
I truly feel sorry for these people, because it sounds as though they are stuck in a paranoid hell of their own making. Imagine waking up each day thinking “all these people hate me.” It’s as if some of these people, through a mixture of fear and paranoia, have lost the very essence of their humanity.
I also fear that as special interest groups continue to push this “genocide” rhetoric, trans people who have not done anything wrong will receive society’s ire. This scares me. Especially since I have had wonderful conversations with transsexual people, who have simply quietly lived their lives. They are out there, but their voices are constantly being drowned out by “trans activists”, a lot of whom don’t even appear to be trans themselves!
A recent study found that young trans people are at a “higher risk of supporting “violent radicalization” after the pandemic then their counterparts.
Researchers defined “Violent Radicalization” as follows:
But this is entirely predictable in our culture of “no debate.” Which is, as it turns out, is completely unsustainable. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez won’t even give people the time of day, as she calls Chaya Raichik a transphobe and walks away.
This is the behavior of our elected leaders, who instead of having honest discussions call people “transphobic.” ‘Transphobic’ appears to be their statement of ‘heresy’. It’s a statement used to make people quiet, make them back down, and agree to things they wouldn’t normally agree too.
But silencing people, instead of engaging in reasoned debate, has consequences. You can’t win an argument about gender-affirming care by calling everyone who opposes it for minors a transphobe.
You can’t win an argument about the safety of bathrooms for both trans kids and non-trans alike by simply stating that lawmakers want to ‘make trans kids suffer’ and ignore the very real consequences that have occurred.
You can’t win an argument about women's prisons and locker rooms by ignoring actual crime statistics and yelling at me that I want trans people raped in prison. You can’t win an argument about women's sports while ignoring the very real advantage of male puberty and calling me transphobic.
Finally, you can’t win an argument by stating that every article/statistic/scientific journal that I hand you is “transphobic” because it disagrees with your opinion.
I am not a hate-filled gender-critical goblin. I am a concerned citizen, who thanks to my ideas and concerns you have labeled transphobic. I am a real person, and so are you.
At some point, trans rights activists are going to have to stop calling people like me transphobic, come to the table, and negotiate how we, as a society, are going to accommodate trans people, without infringing on the rights of everyone else.
Why? Because we live in a society. Your “existence” is not in a vacuum, and neither is anyone else’s. Your “rights” have to be balanced with the rights of others. You can choose whether or not you would like a say in that discussion, but only if you choose to actually discuss.
Otherwise, our lawmakers are just going to continue passing bills you don’t like, and you're just going to keep yelling about it.
Trans Activists Are Their Own Worst Enemies
I think many people share this viewpoint of yours Audra, even if they are not quite prepared to articulate it like you have just laid out. There seems to be a constellation of problems with the movement- a kind of combination of radicalism, narcissism, hyperbolic language/thinking with the gusto of like you said, revolutionaries. Like so many other initiatives- many who want to be treated equally, truly want to be treated specially. But also there is another problem- similar to abortion, where transitioning is celebrated not as a possible choice, but the "act" of doing so is simply "for the good" on its own merits. (i.e "any child that we can get to transition is a victory" sits comfortably similar to those who perform victory dances outside the abortion clinic). It is active recruitment, at this point.
Anyway, good article Audra, on an important topic, for sure.
They will either come to the table to talk and humanize people (after dehumanizing them all this time) or they'll go to war. I don't see them coming to talk any time soon. No one trying to protect the children and mentally ill WANT war, but these SJWs are so caught up in playing "Savior" to their perceived "Victims" that they can't see anyone who disagrees as anything but "Persecutors."
Besides not listening, they are doubling, and tripling down on simply being "for" whatever their perceived persecutors are against. So if you say child mutilation is wrong, they can't consider it and say, "maybe in this case it is." They, instead, simply say, "No, it's not, it's good!"
I just don't see how they will come to decide to talk about this in the future.
