Great minds think alike. You stated exactly what I think. Independent until last year when I saw how far off the farm the dems had gone and now a registered (but still moderate) republican. I have a natural revulsion anytime someone credits the hand of God for the same reason you stated. I think of Trump's turn of the head as a Butterfly Effect moment.
It might in fact be a "Butterfly Effect" moment - though there will be no way for us to tell, since we won't experience the alternate reality if it hadn't happened. By that definition, every action is technically a Butterfly Effect, right? Just happy that some lunatic didn't provoke a civil war.... ZL
"I’ve always thought to live and let live as long as you’re not hurting anyone or asking me to pay for it."
Have you heard of the Libertarian Party? That's essentially our most fundamental principle. Take a look at Chase Oliver. If you don't live in a swing state your vote is "wasted" anyway, so why not?
Actually, Libertarians come the closest to my views, and when I'm pressed to describe myself in a way besides "Independent", that's generally my response. But I'm not a big believer in parties of any kind, despite an understanding of how and why they emerge. People in general tend to be too accepting of labeling themselves.
Hopefully, I'm as rational as I think, so I'm not surprised that I fully agree with your statements. However, (you knew that was coming) some of the suspicions and conspiracy theories being bandied about are to be expected, given the way assassinations have been "documented" in the past. As an example, it has recently it's been stated (and documentation exists) that the bullets that claimed Bobby Kennedy's life were fired from behind him. Yet the official explanation was that the fatal shots were fired by Sirhan Sirhan who was standing in front of him. Conspiracy issues aside, the current state of divisiveness is largely driving the conversation. As I mentioned in my article ( https://www.wrongspeakpublishing.com/p/liberals-lament-shooter-did-not-kill ) Trump is certainly an antagonist, but, "In response to Trump, liberals, have taken to not simply hurling insults, but to calling for violence against Trump and other conservatives". Neither side is blameless, and as I see it, with liberals having an aversion to facts and reason, emotion drives their statements and calls for violence. And that will only lead to further division.
No argument that history is replete with selective information releases regarding such things. In many cases, if there wasn't an actual conspiracy, the actions of the powers-that-be surely fostered such thoughts (kooky basement dwellers notwithstanding).
I just think we should focus more on holding our investigative bodies to a higher standard of transparency, than on pushing "What if?" possibilities around as if they're gospel.
I might be wrong. It might come to pass that there was more than dumb luck involved in what happened. But until then, I strive for level heads prevailing.
…the Left has drifted into La-La-Land, while the Right has begun embracing alternate lifestyles which I’ve always supported despite not being a member myself. I’ve always thought to live and let live as long as you’re not hurting anyone or asking me to pay for it….
Thank you for a well-reasoned article, showing the nonsense on both sides! I'm a conservative and find it crazy to attribute God's hand to Trump's surviving the shooting. (As for the left, their responses speak for themselves.)
I have had multiple situations in my life where I know that if it wasn't for God, I wouldn't be alive today. I know this in my heart and soul. I believe that only the person going through that experience knows that for sure. They are the only one that truly knows their own faith and relationship with God. God could have intervened in Trump's behalf. I don't know for sure one way or the other. Some of Trump's choices in the past haven't been in the best interest for God's children. The direction the progressives are taking this country maybe this would be a reason why. Don Jr has been heavily involved in The Great Awakening tours across America with Mike Flynn. Getting America back to our founding values.
All I will say about the conspiracy piece is FBI immediately said Crooks was solo and Wray testified he shot 8 shots. Video below gives you audio forensic analysis of the first 7 shots. 1-5 were from the same distance. Shot 6 and shot 7 were both from a longer distance. That doesn't fit his testimony of one shooter and Crooks shooting 8 shots.
If I came across as incredulous about the existence of God in people's lives, I apologize, since that was not my intent. Your experiences have not been the same as mine, and I would never begrudge you your perspectives about what may or may not have influenced them - I certainly don't know the answer, despite my personal beliefs.
My issue was with the automatic supposition that it was God's handiwork at play, when there's no way for any of us to verify that. I understand faith, and that by definition it exists in the absence of physical "proof" - and that Trump himself has attributed his luck to divine intervention. But I also think, when observers don't know for certain any more than I do, that categorically supporting such a notion directly contributes to the raging fires of division we are experiencing. Who knows - maybe it was God - but it just seems so arbitrary for that to be true, whether one believes or not.
As for the conspiracy concepts, I have no issue with investigating all possibilities - as I said, it's not as though that's never happened before. By all means, study the forensic analyses and eyewitness accounts to uncover potential discrepancies. And if they're there, I surely want to know. But I will continue to call out those who jump to unsupported conclusions which stoke division. We need to be better.

If Trump wins the election, which I’m sure he will, then his slight turn of the head will be a butterfly effect.
Turns out you were right.

Right on all counts, Dave.

"With liberals having an aversion to facts and reason"--you nailed it!
Well darn. He called me a "rational human being". Finally I have an identity (I never liked WASP).
Now that's funny..

Me too.
Thanks for your insightful piece.
And thank you for responding, Patrick.
