When I think of the level of hatred that has become permissible in politics, I think about my former neighbor who wore 24/7 a custom-made necklace that said "F**k Trump" with pride.
The nasty slogans on t-shirts are really stupid, imo. But I admit I found "Let's Go Brandon," after watching the video of the racecar driver, journalist and crowd to be hilarious. It was the look on the driver's face. He seemed to me to be aware of what the crowd was really chanting. But to wear F**K (fill in the blank) is gross, isn't humorous and is taking us backwards.
Here’s what I wonder - who benefits from dividing Americans into two groups, nudging them further and further apart until they have almost no common ground, and suggesting that they start to see each other as less then human? Certainly Americans aren’t benefiting from this. Even our political parties don’t really seem to benefit that much. So who does?
The rich people at the top of the $$$ mountain. While we bicker and fight over nickels and dimes, they are jockying the system to drain tax dollars from government coffers into their private businesses.....depleting the social safety net for "We the People". Politics is big $$$$ and it takes a lot of $$$$ to get elected and stay elected. Both sides are guilty as charged!
I'm not sure we're being groomed to hate, but hate is certainly being marketed to us.
I am far more concerned with people who wear slogans promoting violence against others of a particular race, religion, or gender.
I also think that their publicly expressed feelings would be less threatening if we had better laws controlling access to guns. Sometimes a slogan is just s slogan, and sometimes it's a warning signal.
I saw this happening a few years ago and got off FB because I was getting so sick of hearing about Trump non-stop by people who claimed to hate him, I guess they didn't know that they helped him in the algorithm by doing that, he still isn't my favorite person but I know better than to think he is the source of all my problems. To think he is the end of the world is so dumb, giving anyone that much power over you is a bad idea. I've started making distance with people who go on rants about how he should die, applaud his attempted assassinations or have some other horrible thing happen to him. It is just gross and not helpful wishing horrible deaths on people you don't like is really off putting and makes me wonder if you should get some help, out of all the people I know on both sides I don't see my conservative friends wish death on people, sure they do some tacky stuff occasionally but nothing like this, there are some people I cannot stand, and with good reason, but would never wish them dead.
“Despite her overt repulsion over Trump, I had empathy for her because it takes a really miserable person to anoint another human being as the ruler over your emotional state, especially a complete stranger.”
PERFECTLY SAID!
If I don’t like someone , I simply don’t think about them. Why give them my time and energy ?

In my daily work life (on a small farm), I'm a sloppy dresser, but even I know how to clean up and look presentable when going off the farm.

Hatred, and all it encompasses, is easy. Love, and all it encompasses, is hard.

As I tell my dad, Trump has no idea who you are, yet you sit here hating him. Who’s the loser in this situation?

The Christian worldview would say that the hate was always there, just needing a gentle push to get into motion
Preach it Coleman! And loudly, please. I sincerely hope the right folks are listening.
Addendum: for prison incarceration.
I used to interview and evaluate convicted felons, like Donald Trump. I remained calm and objective despite the lies and denials.😂😂😅😆😁
"Groomed to hate" is right on!
💯 Adam. Your essay is spot on. I wrote something awhile back and likened it to an addiction.
